Abstract:Citizenship education in China began in the later Qing Dynasty and early Republic period. The keen consciousness of saving the nation from the subjugation and enlightenment thoughts in that era deeply influenced the introduction of the idea of citizenship education, the research of the theory of citizenship education, and the exploration of the practice of citizenship education. And the urgent appeal for building modern nation-state had strengthened the political dimension of citizenship education in general, and the cultural dimension, social dimension and historical dimension of the citizenship education were relatively weakened. In the face of the coexist condition of the era of globalization and diversification, the reflection of the development and its dilemma of citizenship education in china during the first half of 20th century, to a certain extent, will provide beneficial enlightenment for us to explore Chinese citizenship education model.
